The University of Virginia will create a school of leadership and public policy with a $100-million donation from the retired president and chief executive of Landmark Communications Inc., UVa officials announced this month. The gift from Frank Batten Sr., whose company publishes several daily newspapers and owns the Weather Channel, is the largest in the university's history. The donation will pay for the Frank Batten School of Leadership and Public Policy, which will offer degree programs to be phased in over the next four years.

Cavalier junior tennis players Somdev Devvarman and Treat Huey have been named to the All-ACC Tennis Team. It is the third All-Conference honor for both. Devvarman currently is the second ranked player in the country when it comes to singles competition, boasting a 31-5 record, while Huey is ranked 20th in the nation with a 30-6 mark. The doubles tandem of Devvarman and Huey ranks second in the country as well with a 27-6 record on the season.
The Virginia men's tennis team claimed the ACC Championship Sunday, defeating No. 6 North Carolina, 5-0. The Hoos (26-3) have won 16 consecutive ACC matches, dating back to last year. The Cavaliers, ranked number 2 in the country, will await their automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament, which will be announced May 1.
