The Stroke Center at the UVA Health System has been honored by a General Assembly resolution. The Stroke Center has attained re-certification by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations. UVa earned the Joint Commission's Gold Seal of Approval for Primary Stroke Centers two years ago. It was one of the first three hospitals in the state to achieve that status.
In the wake of the tragedy at Virginia Tech, many University of Virginia students and alumni were searching for ways to help the victims of Monday's killings. One way to help is with money, so UVa has set up a special fund for those looking to contribute financially to Tech. The fund, called Hoos for Hokies, was created under the auspices of the UVa Alumni Association, and it has been accepting both credit card and cash contributions, which are then transferred to Blacksburg.
In Charlottesville, Hoos are giving their hearts to Hokies through a program spearheaded by members of the Jewish Chabad Organization on Grounds. They are asking students to pledge to do a simple favor or good deed in memory of the 32 lives lost on Monday.
The University of Virginia celebrates Earth Day a couple of days early by getting knee deep in trash.
