The newly established Gibbons Project strengthen the University’s commitment to researching and acknowledging its history and legacies with slavery.
The gift comes at a time of growth for the Master of Public Safety program, which is designed to help shape the next generation of public service leaders.
The Commonwealth of Virginia Campaign launches today. UVA employees have been the state leaders in generosity for the past 24 years, and the hope is to extend the streak to 25.
The plan includes a new centrally located “academic innovation hub,” plus renovations to faculty and student learning spaces, enhancements to promote accessibility and wellness, and development of residential housing.
“UVA has only reached the tip of the iceberg in terms of the things it can succeed in, whether it’s academics or athletics,” Brogdon said.
Schools, teachers and parents are still dealing with the aftermath of the pandemic’s effects on children, and that’s why librarian Ashley Hosbach launched this project.
While its face is currently being spruced up, Memorial Gymnasium has been a beating heart of activity at the University of Virginia for decades.
Psychology professor Bethany Teachman said that, while exciting, the recommendation “has to come with real resources to make it work. Otherwise, it is lip service.”
