December 7, 2010 — Traffic and parking near the construction sites of the School of Engineering and Applied Science's Rice Hall and the College of Arts & Sciences' Physical and Life Sciences Building at the University of Virginia will be impeded later this month.
Two cranes used in the construction of the buildings, both located just north of Scott Stadium, will be removed from the site between Dec. 18 and 24, weather permitting.
The crane will be removed from Rice Hall from Dec. 18 to 21. During daytime hours, Whitehead Road, between Chemistry and Stadium drives, will be reduced to one lane, with traffic controlled by flaggers. Two-lane traffic will be restored in the evening. A portion of the T-4 parking lot near Small Hall and Engineer's Way will also be closed to pedestrians and vehicles.
The crane will be removed from the Physical and Life Science Building from Dec. 22 to 24. During this time, the Aquatic and Fitness Center's paid parking lot will be closed and Geldard Drive will be closed to vehicles and pedestrians. Whitehead Road, between Geldard Drive and Engineer's Way, will be reduced to single-lane traffic controlled with flaggers during business hours. Two-way traffic will be restored in the evening.
