Oct. 30, 2007 — University of Virginia architecture students will test their pumpkin-carving skills in the Pumpkin Charrette, an annual Halloween event.
Working with this year’s theme of “Reuse,” architecture students will carve pumpkins in various ways and into various shapes. Students will work on their pumpkins ahead of time and then exhibit their work at the Naugahyde Lounge at Campbell Hall on Oct. 31 from 6 to 7 p.m.
In previous years, a student exploded a pumpkin and then reconstructed it, while another used the seeds to make an abstract painting.
The pumpkins will be judged on how well they meet the theme by architecture professors Robin Dripps, Anselmo Canfora, Jason Johnson and Nataly Gattegno. Students will receive gift certificates as prizes.
The judging is open to the public; light refreshment will be provided. The charrette is sponsored by the Student Design Council.
