Aug. 15, 2007 — An erroneous text message was sent to some subscribers of the UVA Alert system on Tuesday afternoon between 5 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. That message, which indicated a weather-related closing, should be disregarded.
The message was inadvertently generated from one of the UVA Alert's service providers, Visix, during testing of the system being done from Visix's offices in Atlanta.
"We apologize to our users for this error and will continue working closely with both Visix and e2Campus to be certain that no future messages are sent as part of our continued testing of the system," said Bill Ashby, associate dean of students.
Notification of the errant message was posted on the UVA Alerts page as well as through the UVA Alerts' RSS feed.
