May 31, 2007 -- More than 3,000 people are expected in Charlottesville this weekend as the University of Virginia's Alumni Association hosts its Reunions Weekend 2007 from Thursday, May 31, through Sunday, June 3. Heavier than normal pedestrian and vehicular traffic is expected.
On Saturday, June 2, traffic will be delayed along University Avenue in front of Madison Hall during a 20-minute fireworks display. More details about the fireworks display and a list of events that may increase traffic in the neighborhoods adjacent to the University are included below.
In addition to events for returning U.Va. alumni, Reunions Weekend 2007 also gives area residents an opportunity to attend seminars — many of which are free. This weekend's seminars include "Not Where You Think You Are: Deception and Fraud on the Internet;" "Plastic Toys, Consumer Culture, and Contemporary Life;" and "The Highs and Lows of College Life: Young Women and Substance Abuse." Advance registration is required.
