Flowers Interpret Art

March 30, 2007 — The Volunteer Board of the University of Virginia Art Museum invites the public to enjoy Garden Week at the museum. On Tuesday, April 24, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., the museum will be open without charge for visitors to see the delightful array of flower arrangements prepared by area garden club members and residents of all ages that are inspired by works of art on view.

Members of the community interested in signing up to create a unique arrangement inspired by a work of art on view should call event chair Jan Weary at (434) 293-5925 to learn more about this program and to select your work. Participants receive a one-year complimentary museum membership as well as a complimentary invitation to the buffet dinner.

Flowers Interpret Art is an annual event organized by the Museum’s Volunteer Board. Complimentary refreshments are provided throughout the day by the Gallery Guild. The public may vote on a “visitor’s choice” arrangement during their visit, and for the second year, judges will select Best Interpretation and Most Creative winners. This year’s judges, all artists, are Holly Macaulay, a garden club member and previous winner; Edith Arbaugh, a member of McGuffey Art Center; and Pam Scott, a flower designer at University Florists. Winners will receive flowers donated by Eltzroth & Thompson.

At 6 p.m. that evening, the Volunteer Board will offer its traditional Flowers Interpret Art buffet, organized by Faye Warner and Jackie Brownfield. Tickets, which must be purchased in advance, are $25 for members and $30 for non-members. For reservations, contact Lucinda Riley at (434) 924-7458 or send checks made payable to the UVA Art Museum to Faye Warner, 580 Rodes Drive, Charlottesville 22903.

The Universiity of Virginia Art Museum is located at 155 Rugby Road. For more information, call (434) 924-3592 or visit www.virginia.edu/artmuseum
