Heritage Repertory Theatre Will be Dark for 2007 Season

Dec. 8, 2006 -- The Heritage Repertory Theatre will be on a hiatus for the 2007 season but will return in the summer of 2008 to bring the hit productions, both musicals and plays, for which the theatre is so well known. The season closing was prompted by the lack of parking due to construction in the Carr's Hill area.

The Culbreth lot is closed to parking and is the staging ground for construction of Ruffin Hall — the new studio art building — and the Arts Grounds Parking Garage, immediately north of the Drama Building.

When completed, the new six-level garage will accommodate 554 spaces for cars. The construction of the garage, which began in December is scheduled to take approximately 18 months to complete. It will provide ample, convenient parking for events occurring simultaneously in the Culbreth and Helms theatres as well as in other Arts Precinct buildings.

"I am very proud of the level of theatre we bring to Charlottesville each summer and I look forward to continuing this tradition," said Bob Chapel, producing artistic director of the Heritage Repertory Theatre.
