August 16, 2006 — Jura Liaukonyte, a graduate student in economics at the University of Virginia, has been selected by the National Science Foundation as one of 50 outstanding research participants to attend the 2nd Lindau Meeting in Economic Sciences.
Liaukonyte, a native of Lithuania, is currently pursuing her doctorate. Her research interests include industrial organization, applied microeconomics, the economics of advertising and international economics.
She holds a master’s in economics from the University of Virginia and a bachelor’s degree from Vytautas Magnus University in Kaunas, Lithuania. At U.Va., she has held a DuPont Fellowship, a Mastercard Fellowship in Economics, a William P. Snavely Fellowship and a Graduate Fellowship from the Department of Economics. In addition, she received her department’s award for Outstanding Graduate Teaching Assistant for 2006-2006.
The Lindau Meeting in Economic Sciences, which welcomes winners of the Bank of Sweden Prize in Economic Sciences in memory of Alfred Nobel, takes place in Lindau, Germany, Aug. 16-19.
Adding to the tradition of the annual Lindau Meeting of
Nobel Laureates in natural sciences, which began in 1951, the main objective of the meeting is to provide an opportunity for personal interaction among leading economists and young researchers from around the world. More than 300 young researchers from 40 different countries are expected to participate in this year's event.
