U.Va. Miller Center to Host Presidents’ Day Event Analyzing 2012 Elections

In a special Presidents’ Day event, the University of Virginia’s Miller Center will bring together top scholars to reflect on and analyze all aspects of the 2012 elections Monday at 11 a.m.

Participants will include contributors to the forthcoming book, “The Elections of 2012,” which was edited by Michael Nelson, a senior fellow at the Miller Center and a political science professor at Rhodes College.

The volume provides insight and analysis of the 2012 elections, offering historical perspective and future implications for the U.S. political systems. Specific topics will include the perils of second-term presidents, how Democrats rejuvenated their coalition and campaign finance.

Besides Nelson, participants will include Marian Currinder of Georgetown University; David Mayhew of Yale University; and Nicole Mellow of Williams College. Sidney Milkis, director of democracy and governance studies at the Miller Center, will moderate the discussion.

“The Elections of 2012” will be published by CQ Press in March. More information on the book can be found here.
