Pavilion VIII Chiller, Slab Scheduled to Be Removed Thursday

Facilities Management’s crews will work Thursday to remove the exterior chiller unit from the south side of Pavilion VIII at the University of Virginia.

The existing fan coil units and chiller were installed in 1983, and have exhausted their useful life. The building will be connected to the Central Grounds Chilled Water Loop, making a stand-alone unit unnecessary.

The chiller plant will be removed with a truck-mounted crane and then the concrete slab that has supported it will be demolished with concrete saws and jackhammers. The work will occur between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. and should be completed in one day. There will be no parking in the L8 lot from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
