U.Va. ROTC Naval Midshipmen to Conduct Conditioning Hike

Midshipmen from the University of Virginia’s Naval ROTC program will conduct a seven-mile conditioning hike in the vicinity of the U.Va. Grounds on Nov. 16.

The hike, which will take place from 7:30 to 10 a.m., will start at Maury Hall, proceed to the gates of Camp Holiday Trails and end at top of Observatory Hill.

The midshipmen will be wearing full packs with reflective tape and carrying rubber M-16A2 service rifles. The nonfunctional weapons will have three inches of bright orange paint on the barrels to identify them. The midshipmen will carry the rifles slung over their shoulders.

There will also be a white, 15-passenger van following closely behind the formation.

After the hike, the midshipmen will participate in a land navigation exercise in the vicinity of Observatory Hill from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
