September at a University tends to be a hectic time, as we adjust to the rhythm of the fall semester. The middle of the month is already upon us, and before you know it, October will be here. With time flying by, I wanted to draw your attention to some important upcoming dates.

First, annual performance evaluations are due to University Human Resources in early October. By now, supervisors and managers have received a memo from UHR about evaluations and raises (if you haven’t seen it, visit www.hrs.virginia.edu/news). The memo has a lot of information about policies and deadlines, but there is much more to performance evaluation than that. The conversation between employee and manager is at least as important as the evaluative outcome. Find out how to participate in an evaluation at http://www.hrs.virginia.edu/relations.html, where we’ve posted some tips for staff and managers. Please make the most of this opportunity to connect.

Second, the results from the HR restructuring survey are in, and we are scheduling three town hall meetings to share the report with the University community:

• Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2:30-3:30 p.m., Newcomb Hall Ballroom

• Thursday, Sept. 27, 10-11 a.m., Newcomb Hall Ballroom

• Thursday Sept. 27, 2:30-3:30 p.m., Facilities lunchroom

The meetings will feature a brief overview of restructuring progress, as well as a look at the results from the survey and a Q&A session. Come hear what you and your colleagues said about working at U.Va. I look forward to seeing you there. Until then, enjoy the rest of September.
