Fourth-Year University of Virginia Photography Students Exhibit at The Bridge Progressive Arts Initiative

April 23, 2008 — For the third year in a row, The Bridge Progressive Arts Initiative will host an exhibition of new photographic works from the University of Virginia's graduating class. This month-long showcase, presented in two parts this May, will display the images of six students, with a separate reception for each trio.

• First Exhibition – Opening reception on Friday, May 2, 6 to 9 p.m.

The first group will include photos by Jamie McCelland, Vincent Mendiola and Uyen-Vi Tran. The featured work will utilize contemporary photography techniques such as contextualized portraiture and elaborate miniature set construction. Following the opening reception, the work will remain in the gallery throughout the weekend; visitors may stop by between noon and 3 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, May 3 and 4.

• Second Exhibition – Opening reception on Friday, May 9, 6 to 9 p.m.

The second exhibition will feature work by Liz Freer, Cecilia Steele and Jessica Schnittka. Their photographs address topics ranging from the natural environment to cliques of seventh-grade girls. This second exhibition will remain on display through Saturday and Sunday afternoons, May 10 and 11, from noon to 3 p.m.

• Group Exhibition – during regular gallery hours through Sunday, June 1

Following these two opening weekends, which allow each artist more room to display a range of their work, there will be a salon-style group show for the remainder of the month, containing selections of work by each of the six student photographers. This will provide a coherent overview of the show, and will also allow those visiting for graduation weekend the opportunity to see the exhibition. The gallery will be open from noon to 3 p.m. on Thursdays through Sundays, May 15 through 18 and May 22 through 25, and May 29  through June 1. Visitors may also make appointments to see the gallery at other times by contacting The Bridge PAI at 434-984-5669 or info@thebridgepai.com.

The Bridge is located at 209 Monticello Road. For information and further event listings, visit www.thebridgepai.com.
