Shimmering fall weather greeted hundreds of ghouls, goblins and superheroes Wednesday afternoon for the University of Virginia’s massively popular annual event, Trick-or-Treating on the Lawn.

Shafts of sunlight shone down on the grassy expanse as babies, toddlers and school-aged children moved from room to room with their parents and guardians, collecting candy and other treats.

This year’s event had some spooky new features. For the first time, residents of the West Range, the Academical Village rooms that face McCormick Road, gave out candy.

The Raven Society opened Edgar Allan Poe’s room for tours and a student delivered an uncanny impersonation of the former UVA student.

This was also the first year President Jim Ryan gave out goodies from his pavilion. He and members of his staff were “creeping it real” in full costume. Members of the UVA Drama Department offered to dress the Madison Hall crew as people from the 1970s, and Ryan and his staff embraced the suggestion because of its historical significance as the period when UVA became fully coeducational.

Relive the fang-tastic fun with these boo-tiful pictures.
