Batson co-founded UVA’s Department of Computer Science in the mid-1960s. Fifty years later, the program is the largest and highest-ranked of its kind in Virginia.
The budget for the fiscal year that began July 1 now totals $3.76 billion, revised down by 2.3% versus the blueprint approved in June.

The UVA School of Nursing has received a $5 million gift from the Pew Charitable Trusts to create the Rebecca W. Rimel Dean’s Chair. The endowed chair honors Rimel, a 1973 graduate of the school and Pew’s longtime president and CEO.
