The Class of 2023 wasted no time getting involved on Grounds, as hundreds of new students flocked to the Student Activities Fair on Monday.

Student organizations play a prominent role at the University of Virginia, which prides itself on student self-governance. There are more than 650 student organizations in all, covering a huge range of interests and activities. (On UVA Today alone, we’ve featured a nationally competitive Bollywood dance team, a running group pairing students with local children, a cooking class and an Outdoors Club exploring the Blue Ridge Mountains, and a finance club that recently hit $1 million in assets, among many others).

Roughly 500 of those organizations were on hand Monday for the fair, organized by Student Council and held on the Lawn and in the McIntire Amphitheater.

There was something for everyone, from community service organizations to club sports teams, a cappella groups, arts groups, groups representing different cultures, countries and religions, and much more.

All of them were eager to talk up their cause. Many of them got creative to woo new Hoos – making signs, handing out tasty treats and even donning costumes.
