News in Brief: UVA Hosts 2023 Trick-or-Treating on the Lawn Oct. 31

Trick-or-Treating on the Lawn returns to the University of Virginia on Oct. 31 from 5 to 7 p.m.

Launched by students in the 1980s, the size of the event has grown steadily. Hundreds of students, faculty, staff and members of the local community turn out each year.

Lawn residents and members of student organizations will be in each of the 54 Lawn rooms handing out candy and other treats, as will residents of rooms on the Range.

Rain didn’t dampen last year’s event as tiny ghosts and superheroes walked from room to room, collecting candy corn, Skittles and chocolate. One little girl was dressed as a strawberry cake. Another enthused, “I love ‘Halleeooween.’ It’s the best day I can think of.”

Don’t miss the fun this year and be sure to take in “The Great Rotumpkin,” a spooky digital display that will be projected onto the Rotunda Oct. 27 to 31, from 7 to 11 p.m.
