More than 3,900 first-year and transfer students filed onto the Lawn Sunday evening, ready to begin their careers as Cavaliers.

Families pulled packed cars into parking spaces all along Alderman and McCormick roads, where UVA “Greeters” waited with strong arms ready to be filled with stuffed Ikea bags, microwaves and mini refrigerators.

Money ranked UVA the 10th-best-value school for the third year in a row, and No. 7 in the magazine’s ranking of public universities. UVA is the only public university in Money’s top 10 to meet 100% of students’ demonstrated financial need.

Supported by UVA’s formidable Conferences@UVA office, UVA is host to about 70 different programs and more than 120 camp and conference sessions throughout the summer season.

The new distinction comes after the Princeton Review ranked UVA as America’s “best value” public college in 2018 and U.S News and World Report ranked UVA the No. 2 best-value public university in the country this year.
