The UVA Health System program provides critical support to family members who are caring for loved ones suffering from many forms of dementia.

The University jumped from 38 to 7 in this year’s ranking by The Campus Pride Index, an independent national scorecard of best practices. UVA was also ranked the top university in Virginia for LGBTQ students for the second year in a row.

The unusually named Rexo joins German Shepherd Nahla, and will be working to keep the University safe.

Josh Farris, a first-gen, low-income student from Shawsville, felt alone and isolated, so he decided to do something about it. He and a team of students spent the year organizing and putting on a national conference to support students like themselves.

Rise Together, a UVA student-founded mentorship program, partnered with the University Guide Service and first-gen faculty to lay out the welcome mat to local students.

For one amazing night this May, Olivia Scheidt was asked to join the orchestra backing The Who, one of the most influential rock bands of the 20th century. A marathon practice session and playing just feet from the superstars made for an unforgettable experience.

Speaking to a packed John Paul Jones Arena, Williams, a Virginia Beach native, told the Class of 2019 “the only way to make life better for yourself is to make life better for others.”

The report finds that after infancy, adolescence is the most active period in neuro development. “It’s a dramatic period of brain development,” said Richard Bonnie, the director of the UVA’s Institute of Law, Psychiatry and Public Policy and chairman of the report committee.

Samuel went out strong this year, completing a challenging capstone project, bringing music to Grounds and hosting an epic Lawn party to watch UVA take home the national championship in basketball.

The Hoos Building Bridges Award will recognize Academic Division staff and Medical Center team members who have gone above and beyond their professional mandates to build strong and lasting relationships across the University.
