College faculty members voted with an 83 percent majority to test the first comprehensive revamp of the school’s curriculum in more than four decades. The pilot program will begin with a subset of students entering UVA in the fall of 2017.

Fewer than 100 people still speak Cemaun Arapesh, one of more than 800 languages spoken in Papua New Guinea. Last winter, UVA linguist Lise Dobrin invited a native speaker to Grounds to assist her efforts to preserve the language.
