The fund takes its name from the UVA Strong signs and banners that have sprung up around Charlottesville since Nov. 13.

In the wake of a student referendum that repealed the expulsion sanction in the spring, the UVA Alumni Association has launched a new effort to explore honor for a new generation.

The annual scholarship recognizes leadership, sportsmanship, character and integrity.

The Darden School of Business alumna is the second woman president of the Alumni Association in its 184-year history.

The trust’s annual grants will back projects spanning from the social sciences to the hard sciences, plus support veteran students, temporarily recreate Jefferson’s original vision for the Rotunda Dome Room and enhance the arts community.

Jenifer Andrasko, a former U.S. Navy pilot, mission commander and NATO officer, will be the first woman president of the Alumni Association.
